About WGC |
|
Wilson Global Communications LLC, (WGC) is an integrated marketing communications and strategic public relations consultancy headquartered in Washington, D.C. WGC was founded in 1994 by journalist and social entrepreneur Julia Wilson in Johannesburg, South Africa and specializes in U.S.-Africa-European relations and international media product development. WGC has worked with clients in South Africa, Ghana, Senegal, Nigeria, Kenya, DR Congo, Liberia, Cote d'Ivoire, Malawi, Gabon, Great Britain, France and the United States of America.
WGC was created with two primary goals in mind:
To provide technical expertise and support that assists Africans to positively “re-brand” and reposition Africa’s worldwide image, lending journalistic experience to balance news reports in an effort to change negative perceptions of Africa and people of African descent, and;
To increase mutually beneficial business and trade opportunities between Africa and the U.S. and Europe, thus working with Africans to position Africa as a viable global trading partner with high growth opportunities with potentially high Return on Investment (ROI).
To meet its goals, WGC created PICA – Positive Image Campaign for Africa and developed international media products as tools to spotlight Africa’s progress and development: “On the Continent,” a 30-minute international television program launched in 2006 in Paris, France and aired in Europe and Francophone African countries in English and French and is scheduled for expansion in 2009 to 40 countries on the Voice of America TV to Africa; and “Good News Liberia,” a 30-minute radio program that aired in Monrovia, Liberia on two leading radio stations and uploaded on the Internet, which serves as a template for other African countries.
WGC continues to form collaborations with African media companies and professionals to provide technical support and media vehicles for Africans to tell their own stories to the rest of the world.
