WGC
was founded in 1994 by Julia Wilson, an American entrepreneur and
journalist. Within weeks of operating, WGC partnered with Coca-Cola
Company's international division to publish Outlook Africa. This
quarterly publication highlighted Coca-Cola's business and philanthropic
activities throughout the continent and was distributed to more
than 200 countries worldwide.
In a short time, WGC's eight-member team developed
a reputation as a multicultural firm intimately familiar with Africa's
various peoples, cultures and mores.
Armed with a staff who spoke 11 different languages,
including English, WGC quickly became the first choice of multinational
businesses and government officials who needed public relations
and marketing expertise "on the ground" in Africa.
From
1995 to 1998, WGC coordinated several visits to the African continent
by the late Ron Brown, U.S. Secretary of State and other governments'
officials. In addition, the multicultural firm positioned the Coke
brand by coordinating high-profile product visibility events with
heads of state visits featuring President Bill Clinton, First Lady
Hillary Rodham Clinton, and His Royal Highness Prince Charles.
WGC also was the consulting public relations and marketing
firm that coordinated the Ghanaian government's efforts in promoting
its top 100 businesses during President Clinton's visit to Accra
in 1998. WGC assisted SBC, a U.S.- based telecommunications company,
to effectively penetrate the New South African market through a
partnership with Telecom Malaysia and launched the first taxi-phone
service in township taxis, known as "combies," on behalf
of MTN, Africa's leading telecommunication company.
Today, WGC serves as a liaison between African and
U.S. businesses and governments seeking to build business partnerships.
The firm has focused on West African countries practicing good governance
-- Senegal, Nigeria and Ghana. WGC represents the only continental
news agency in Africa, PANAPRESS, which is headquartered in Dakar,
Senegal. The news agency employs 120 news reporters in 53 countries.
